# Inha University: Admission, Tuition and Scholarships for International Students

Inha University (인하대학교) is a private university in Incheon best known for engineering. International applicants are admitted on documents alone, with no entrance exam: the Korean-taught track asks for TOPIK 3 or Level 4 at a Korean university language institute, while the two English-taught programmes in the College of International Studies need IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 71. Applications for the spring 2027 semester are open from 30 September to 5 November 2026, and paper documents must reach the university by 12 November. In 2026 a semester cost from $3,140 (KRW 4,253,000) in the humanities to $4,040 (KRW 5,462,000) in engineering.

## Who Inha suits {#section-1}

Inha's strength is engineering: mechanical, aerospace, naval architecture, electrical and electronic, chemical and materials engineering. Majors marked with a star in the admission handbook follow ABEEK accreditation standards, so graduates receive an accredited engineering degree.

| Good fit | Compare with other universities |
| --- | --- |
| Future engineers with TOPIK 3 who value accredited programmes | Applicants set on studying inside Seoul: look at [Hanyang](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-hanyang) or [Konkuk](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-konkuk) |
| Strong English speakers: Inha's awards for IELTS 7 and above are unusually generous | Students who want many English-taught options: Inha has two, [Sejong](https://www.studyu.org/en/university-sejong) has more than ten |
| Students ready to start with TOPIK 2 and spend a year on Korean inside the college | Future doctors: medicine is not open through international admission |
| Graduates of Inha's own Korean programme, who can join a conditional pre-selection | Anyone unwilling to reach TOPIK 4 before graduating on the Korean track |

## Programmes open to international students {#section-2}

Korean track. Almost every college admits international freshmen: engineering (about fifteen majors, including semiconductor systems and energy resources), bio-convergence, AI convergence (AI engineering, data science, smart mobility, computer engineering, design technology), natural sciences, business, social sciences, humanities, and arts and sports. Architecture (5 years) and Nursing admit only in spring; Physical Education takes three students, also only in spring. Arts, sports, physical education and design technology require a portfolio or video with an explanation in Korean or English.

English track. The College of International Studies teaches IBT (International Business & Trade) and ISE (Integrated System Engineering) entirely in English. No Korean is needed to apply, and graduation follows the department's own rules.

Division of Global Liberal Studies. Applicants with TOPIK 2, or with Level 3 completed at a Korean university language institute, may apply here. The first year includes intensive Korean at an extra cost of about $1,110 (KRW 1,500,000) a year, which is not refunded even if TOPIK 3 comes early. Students choose a major in year two once they hold TOPIK 3. Entrants who already have TOPIK 3 skip the extra Korean fee.

## Language requirements {#section-3}

| Track | Accepted at application |
| --- | --- |
| Korean | TOPIK or TOPIK IBT Level 3+; Level 4 completed at a Korean university language centre; King Sejong Institute Intermediate 4A |
| English (IBT, ISE) | IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 71, or 4 on the new TOEFL scale for tests taken after 21 January 2026 |
| Transfer to year 2 or 3, Korean track | TOPIK 4 or Level 5 at a Korean university language centre |

TOEFL MyBest Scores and IELTS One Skill Retake are accepted; TOEFL iBT Home Edition and IELTS Indicator are not. Citizens of countries where English is a native or official language do not submit a certificate. Scores must be valid on the day you apply online, and language-course certificates must be under two years old. Korean-track students need TOPIK 4 to graduate. See our [TOPIK guide](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-topik-exam-guide) for levels and test dates.

## Spring 2027 timeline {#section-4}

| Step | Dates (Korean time) |
| --- | --- |
| Online application | 30 Sep 2026, 10:00 – 5 Nov 2026, 17:00 |
| Documents must arrive | by 12 Nov 2026, 17:00 |
| Results | 22 Dec 2026, 14:00 |
| Tuition payment | 23 Dec 2026 – 12 Jan 2027 |

For the autumn semester Inha usually takes applications from mid-April to mid-May. Results appear on the International Center website; applicants are not notified individually.

## Documents and how to apply {#section-5}

1. Pick a major and track, and check whether it admits in spring only or needs a portfolio.
2. Take TOPIK or IELTS/TOEFL early enough to hold the score on the day you apply.
3. Apply through the international admissions site (apply.inha.ac.kr, Uway system) or the Study in Korea portal, and pay the fee. The form cannot be edited after payment.
4. Post the originals to the Global Talent Recruitment Team so they arrive by 12 November, or hand them in on weekdays between 9:00 and 17:00.
5. After the results, pay tuition by 12 January and send the bank balance certificate by the same deadline; no Certificate of Admission is issued without it.

The document set: the printed form with a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo, the overseas school information form, the language certificate, the academic background check agreement, the diploma (or expected-graduation certificate) and transcripts with the maximum score shown, all apostilled; a family relationship document (for Russia and most CIS countries, the birth certificate) with a notarised English translation; and passport copies for you and both parents. Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan all issue apostilles. Documents are never returned. The fee is refunded only for overpayment, a problem on Inha's side, natural disaster or the applicant's hospitalisation.

## Costs {#section-6}

| Field | Tuition per semester, 2026 |
| --- | --- |
| Engineering | $4,040 (KRW 5,462,000) |
| Natural sciences | $3,750 (KRW 5,076,000) |
| Consumer science, child studies, nursing | $3,450 (KRW 4,665,000) |
| Humanities and social sciences | $3,140 (KRW 4,253,000) |

Inha warns that rates change each academic year, so budget a margin for 2027. The table does not list arts, sports or the College of International Studies; ask admissions (apply@inha.ac.kr) for those.

Other costs: the application fee of $110 (KRW 150,000), up from $78 (KRW 105,000) in earlier years; Dormitory 2 quadruple rooms at $990 (KRW 1,340,000) per semester including one meal on weekdays (spring 2026 rate); private insurance for the first six months until national health insurance starts. Every international freshman who applies for housing within the set period gets a room for the first semester; after that, places depend on admission results and dormitory rules. Leaving early costs an extra $74 (KRW 100,000). For a full yearly budget, see [the cost of studying in Korea](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-cost-of-studying-in-korea) and [student housing in Korea](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-student-housing-korea).

## Scholarships {#section-7}

The admissions committee awards one entrance scholarship per student, the most valuable one that applies, based on documents submitted on time.

| Freshman criterion | Award |
| --- | --- |
| TOPIK 4 / 5 / 6 | 30% / 50% / 100% of one semester |
| Level 6 at Inha's Korean language centre | 100% of one semester |
| Korean track: TOEFL iBT 115 (new scale 6) or IELTS 9 | full tuition for 4 years, $220 (KRW 300,000) a month and housing |
| Korean track: TOEFL iBT 106 (5.5) or IELTS 8 | full tuition for 4 years and $220 (KRW 300,000) a month |
| Korean track: TOEFL iBT 96 (5) or IELTS 7 | full tuition for one year |
| TOEFL iBT 90 (4.5) or IELTS 6.5 | half of one semester |
| English track without TOPIK: TOEFL 115 / IELTS 9, 106 / 8, 96 / 7 | 2 years, 1 year or 1 semester tuition-free |

English-track entrants with TOPIK 3 use the Korean-track scale. Native English speakers are not eligible for English-based awards. Four-year awards go by admission ranking within the budget and are suspended when the semester GPA drops below 3.20. From the second semester, the Global 2 scholarship covers full, three-quarter, half or quarter tuition at GPAs of 4.30, 4.00, 3.75 and 3.20 (4.50, 4.30, 4.00 and 3.50 in the College of International Studies) for students taking at least 16 credits and passing 15. Government GKS funding is a separate competition; see our [GKS guide](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-gks-scholarship-korea).

## Inha's Korean language centre {#section-8}

The Language Training Center (ltc.inha.ac.kr) runs six levels in 10-week terms, four intakes a year, for $1,030 (KRW 1,400,000) a term (rate as of September 2026) plus a $74 (KRW 100,000) application fee. Applicants abroad apply roughly two months ahead (mid-January for spring, mid-April for summer, mid-July for autumn, mid-October for winter) and study on a D-4 visa. Centre students can take a conditional pre-interview in which the university indicates whether it would admit them and what scholarship they might expect. When moving from the centre to a degree without leaving Korea, the financial proof drops to $7,390 (KRW 10,000,000) if the student stays enrolled at the centre until admission. More options are compared in [Korean language programmes in Korea](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-korean-language-programs-in-korea).

## Bank balance, D-2 visa and insurance {#section-9}

Admitted students living abroad submit an original bank certificate for at least $14,780 (KRW 20,000,000; Inha itself quotes USD 16,000) in the applicant's or parents' name; siblings only when parents are unavailable. The money must not be raised inside Korea and must stay in the account until admission. A scholarship letter can replace the certificate. Uzbek citizens must submit a certificate for at least USD 16,000 issued by a KDB Bank branch in Uzbekistan; dollar and soum accounts are both accepted. The Certificate of Admission arrives by email, and the D-2 visa is issued by a Korean embassy or consulate, which alone decides on it. If the visa is not obtained within two weeks of the semester start, admission is cancelled. Applicants from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan need a tuberculosis check. Country-specific embassy rules are in our [student visa guide](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-student-visa-korea), and work-hour limits on D-2 in [working while studying in Korea](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-working-while-studying-in-korea).

## Inha for applicants from Russia and the CIS {#section-10}

- Payment: Inha asks applicants not to use private money changers for fees or tuition. Lawful payment routes from Russia are covered in [how to pay for studies abroad from Russia](https://www.studyu.org/en/blog-how-to-pay-for-studies-abroad-from-russia).
- Nationality: you and both parents must have held foreign citizenship before you entered high school; dual Korean nationality rules you out.

## Common mistakes {#section-11}

- Applying with TOPIK 2 to any unit other than Global Liberal Studies.
- Sending IELTS Indicator or TOEFL Home Edition scores.
- Posting documents on the last day: what counts is arrival in Incheon.
- Expecting two scholarships at once.
- Choosing Architecture or Nursing for the autumn intake, when both admit only in spring.

## FAQ {#section-12}

### Can I study at Inha without Korean?

Yes, on the IBT or ISE programmes of the College of International Studies, which are taught entirely in English and require IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL iBT 71. Other majors need at least TOPIK 3, or TOPIK 2 for Global Liberal Studies with a paid year of Korean.

### How much does a year at Inha cost?

In 2026 a semester cost $3,140 (KRW 4,253,000) in the humanities up to $4,040 (KRW 5,462,000) in engineering, so roughly $6,290–8,070 (KRW 8,506,000–10,924,000) a year in tuition. Add the $110 (KRW 150,000) application fee, housing from $990 (KRW 1,340,000) a semester and insurance.

### When is the spring 2027 deadline?

Online applications run from 30 September to 5 November 2026 at 17:00 Korean time, and originals must arrive in Incheon by 12 November. Results come out on 22 December 2026, and tuition is due by 12 January 2027.

### What scholarships can international students get?

At entry: a first-semester discount for TOPIK 4–6, Level 6 at Inha's language centre, or IELTS 6.5 and above; with IELTS 8–9 on the Korean track, tuition can be covered for four years with a monthly allowance. From the second semester, awards depend on GPA from 3.20.

### Is Inha University in Tashkent the same university?

No. IUT in Tashkent shares the name and works with the Korean university, but it runs its own admission, fees and degree. Admission to Incheon follows the rules on this page, including TOPIK or an English certificate.

### Can StudyU help me apply to Inha?

Choosing the track and major, checking documents and apostilles, preparing the application and a TOPIK plan are provided under an agreement with StudyU. Inha decides on admission and scholarships, the housing office allocates rooms, and the Korean consulate decides on the visa.
