## Işık University at a glance

Işık University is a private foundation university in Istanbul, established in 1996 by an education foundation with a much longer school tradition. Its most coherent academic cluster combines engineering, architecture and design with business, economics and social sciences.

The university operates in two very different parts of Istanbul. The main Şile campus is a green, self-contained site on the Asian side, while the Maslak campus offers an urban setting on the European side. Applicants should confirm the actual teaching location of their program before choosing accommodation. A room that works well for Maslak may be unrealistic for daily travel to Şile, and vice versa.

Işık can feel more like a campus university than many city-based private institutions in Istanbul. That is an advantage for students who want sports, clubs, library access and classmates nearby. It is less suitable for someone whose priority is being in central Istanbul every evening or combining a demanding timetable with frequent off-campus work.

## Academic strengths, ranking context and trade-offs

The clearest strength is the engineering-to-design pathway. Computer, software, industrial, mechanical, civil, biomedical and electrical engineering sit alongside architecture, interior architecture and industrial design. This gives students opportunities to build interdisciplinary projects rather than treating technology and design as separate worlds. Business, economics, international relations, psychology and management information systems broaden the English-taught options.

Işık participates in Erasmus+ and maintains international partnerships, but an exchange place is never automatic. Availability depends on the faculty agreement, grades, language evidence and the number of places in a given year. Applicants who regard exchange as essential should ask for the partner list for their department, not only a university-wide total.

The current profile places Işık in the #901+ band in QS Europe. That is useful as broad regional context, not as a verdict on a particular engineering or design degree. Curriculum, lab access, accreditation, teaching language and graduate outcomes are more relevant to an individual decision. The main practical trade-off is location: Şile offers space and focus but can make central-city internships and events harder to reach.

## Programs and teaching language

The most straightforward English-taught choices include Architecture, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, Psychology and Management Information Systems. Turkish is more common in cinema and television, visual communication design, industrial design and some social-science options.

An English-taught listing does not waive the language requirement. Students must provide an accepted certificate or meet the university's internal proficiency standard. If they do not, an English preparatory year may be added. Turkish-taught degrees normally require proof of Turkish; the current undergraduate admissions information points to TÖMER B2. The preparation route affects both the total study time and budget, so it should be confirmed before paying a deposit.

At graduate level, applicants should distinguish thesis and non-thesis formats. They are not interchangeable labels: a thesis route is normally the stronger fit for research or future doctoral study, while a non-thesis route is often more professionally oriented. The tuition table also prices them differently and states the fee per complete program rather than per year.

## Tuition for 2026/27

Engineering and architecture tend to sit in the $4,800 published-base group, while business, economics and many social-science programs are listed at $3,600.

Graduate tuition uses a different fee basis. The detailed table below keeps every program on its own row so that one figure is not applied to the entire university.

Tuition is not a full cost-of-attendance figure. Accommodation, meals, health insurance, residence-permit expenses, translations, notarisation, transport and a language-preparation year are separate unless the written offer explicitly includes them. The binding amount is the figure on the offer or invoice after the program, language, intake and payment schedule have been confirmed.

## Admission documents and timing

The initial application is online. A complete file normally includes a passport, high-school diploma or current graduation letter, transcript, photograph and, where available, an international examination result and language certificate. Uploads must be clear and complete. An application can be delayed even when the academic profile is acceptable if pages are missing or names do not match across documents.

Registration requires more than the online file. Students should expect to present original documents, required translations, proof of payment and high-school equivalency. Applicants who will still be under 18 at registration may also need parental consent and a birth certificate. Country-specific minimum results should be checked before submission rather than assumed from a general admissions page.

Private-university admission commonly continues in rounds until a program reaches capacity. That does not make the final published date a safe target. English-taught engineering places can close earlier, and international students need time for payment, visa planning, equivalency and housing. A sensible workflow is to prepare the file in spring or early summer, confirm the live quota, receive the written offer and only then make irreversible travel arrangements.

## Campus, housing and day-to-day student life

Şile works best for students who want to live close to classes and use campus facilities as part of daily life. When comparing residence options, check the room type, meal plan, utilities, deposit, contract length and actual walk or shuttle to the faculty. A low advertised monthly price can be misleading if meals, heating or a long commute are excluded.

Maslak offers easier access to the European-side business districts and a more urban routine, usually with a higher housing budget. The program location should therefore shape the accommodation search from the start. Crossing Istanbul between the two campus areas every day is not a realistic housing strategy.

Clubs, project teams, competitions and exchange programs can strengthen a student's experience, but employability still requires individual work. Engineering students should seek lab and team projects early; design students need a portfolio from the first year; business students benefit from case competitions, data work and professional English. The university environment creates opportunities, not an automatic internship or job.

## Degree recognition and who Işık suits

A degree from a recognised Turkish university does not automatically grant a professional licence in another country. Engineering, architecture, psychology and other regulated fields may require credential evaluation, specified modules, supervised practice, language evidence or a licensing examination. Students should check the rules in the country where they expect to work and keep detailed syllabi and internship records.

It also suits students who prefer a focused campus community over central-city intensity. It is a weaker fit for someone seeking medicine, insisting on a single downtown location, or choosing a university only by a global ranking number. The table lists published base tuition and its fee basis. Confirm the current amount, intake, and payment schedule in the university's written offer or invoice.

The decision is strongest when the applicant compares three items together: the exact curriculum, the campus where it is delivered and the total multi-year budget. A lower first-year tuition number is not enough if a preparation year, unsuitable housing location or recognition gap changes the real route to graduation.

## Programs and exact 2026/27 tuition

The table below reproduces the verified 2026/27 international catalog by program. English catalog names are retained to distinguish closely related degrees and language versions. Bachelor's and associate figures are per academic year; master's and PhD figures are per complete program. The amount becomes binding only when it is confirmed on the applicant's written offer or invoice. The table lists published base tuition and its fee basis. Confirm the current amount, intake, and payment schedule in the university's written offer or invoice.

## Student reviews

Sunny days in Sile campus left unforgettable moments in my memory. I graduated from the Bachelor of Management program in 2013. The university became not only a place of study but also my second home. The diverse student body, strong friendships, and personal growth in the early years were invaluable. I am proud of my university’s accomplishments since I graduated, and I am confident that prospective students, especially those coming from abroad, will feel at home here. Good luck to all those applying to universities now, may you succeed in finding your second home, just as I did".
