Edinburgh Napier University is a public university in Edinburgh with an applied focus: business, computing, engineering, media, design, tourism and nursing. Applicants with a Russian school certificate (attestat) normally enter through the university's International College (ENUIC), where International Stage One counts as year one and leads straight into year two of the degree. In 2026/27, international bachelor's fees are $24,110–27,950 (£18,220–21,120) a year, an ENUIC year costs $20,890–23,760 (£15,785–17,955), and the deposit starts at $7,940 (£6,000).

Edinburgh Napier is not the University of Edinburgh, which has its own profile on our site. How the four-year Scottish degree works is explained in our guide to universities in Scotland.

Who Edinburgh Napier suits
| Strengths | Limits |
|---|---|
| The pathway year counts as year one, so the total length does not grow | The attestat alone does not open year one |
| The ENUIC grade threshold (3/5) is lower than at most study-centre pathways | 2027/28 fees are not yet published |
| Three ENUIC intakes a year: September, November, January | The £6,000 deposit is rarely refundable |
| January master's starts and a 3.0/5 degree threshold | No country scholarship for Russia |
| Scotland's capital, campuses close to the centre | Scottish honours degrees take four years |
Napier suits applicants who want an applied degree in Edinburgh without a high grade threshold: business and management, IT and cyber security, tourism and events, media. If research standing and global rankings matter more, compare it with the University of Edinburgh; for an engineering-led university in Glasgow, see the University of Strathclyde. Other options are on our study in the UK page.
After school: the International College (ENUIC)
Napier's Russia page states that school leavers would generally need an international pathway programme before a bachelor's degree. That programme is run by Edinburgh Napier University International College (ENUIC) on the Merchiston campus. The college is operated by a private company, Oxford International Education Group, under an agreement with the university, so you apply to ENUIC separately and the college decides on pathway admission. ENUIC students use the university's library, halls, clubs and societies from day one.
The Russia page calls the routes International Year One and International Year Two; the college website calls them International Stage One (IS1) and International Stage Two (IS2). They are the same programmes.
| Programme | Requirement for Russia | English | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Stage One | attestat or basic vocational diploma, average 3/5 | IELTS 5.5, no component below 5.5 | year two of a four-year degree: 1 + 3 years |
| International Stage Two | attestat average 3.5/5, or attestat plus one year of specialised study with GPA 3 | same IELTS 5.5 minimum in every skill | year three: 1 + 2 years |
| Stream, 2026/27 | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| IS1 Business | $20,890 (£15,785) |
| IS1 Computing | $21,800 (£16,475) |
| IS1 Digital Media, Mass Communications | $21,330 (£16,115) |
| IS1 Biosciences, Engineering | $23,760 (£17,955) |
| IS2 Business, Hospitality | $21,800 (£16,475) |
| IS2 Computing | $22,330 (£16,875) |
IS1 Business leads to degrees in business, accounting and finance, marketing, economics, and hospitality, tourism and events. IS1 starts in September, November and January; Biosciences and Mass Communications start only in September and January. Future nurses can take the International Foundation Year in Nursing for $21,800 (£16,475). For 2026/27, Oxford International offers scholarships of up to $6,620 (£5,000) on IS1 and IS2 and up to $2,650 (£2,000) on the nursing foundation year. Our foundation year guide compares pathway types across the UK.
Bachelor's degrees: direct entry and four years
A Russian attestat on its own does not normally give direct entry to year one. With A-levels, the IB or a completed university year you can apply directly: BA Business Management lists A-levels BCC, and many courses offer Advanced Entry to year two or three. A standard Scottish honours degree lasts four years, and some courses add a placement year.
| Course, 2026/27 | International | Scottish student |
|---|---|---|
| BA (Hons) Business Management, 4 years, UCAS N200 | $24,110 (£18,220) | $2,410 (£1,820) |
| BSc (Hons) Computer Science, 4 years, UCAS I101 | $27,950 (£21,120) | $2,410 (£1,820) |
The £1,820 rate for Scottish residents is paid by the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS); a student-visa holder does not meet its residence conditions and pays the international rate. Fees are reviewed every year, and course pages still show 2027/28 as "tba". International students cannot enrol on BM/MM Midwifery, MSc Nursing or Graduate Apprenticeship courses.
Applications for September 2027 go through UCAS, with the equal-consideration deadline on 13 January 2027. Our guide to applying to UK universities walks through the form.
Master's degrees
The threshold for Russian graduates is moderate: a Bakalavr or Specialist diploma with an average of 3.0/5 or above, plus IELTS 6.0 with no component below 5.5 (some courses ask for more).
| Course | Start | International fee, 2026/27 |
|---|---|---|
| MSc Business Management | January or September | $27,180 (£20,540) |
| MSc Artificial Intelligence and Data Science | January | $29,500 (£22,290) |
On MSc Business Management, the September cohort studies for 12 months and the January cohort for 18 months with a three-month summer break, which affects visa length and rent. If your degree or English is not yet enough, ENUIC runs the International Incorporated Masters before progression:
| Option, 2026/27 | English | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| One term (business, healthcare, creative industries) | IELTS 6.0, components 5.5+ | $12,500 (£9,445) |
| One term, computing | as above | $13,330 (£10,075) |
| Two terms (business, healthcare) | IELTS 5.5, components 5.5+ | $16,390 (£12,385) |
| Two terms, computing | as above | $16,770 (£12,670) |
Oxford International also offers 2026/27 scholarships at this stage: up to $6,720 (£5,075) on the one-term option and up to $9,490 (£7,170) on the two-term option. Napier graduates get 20% off the first year of a full-time master's.
English tests
The usual benchmark is IELTS Academic 6.0 with every component at 5.5 or above; PTE Academic 59 in every component; Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency 169 with at least 162 per component. TOEFL iBT and the Oxford Test of English are also accepted. If your offer requires a SELT, only IELTS for UKVI, centre-based LanguageCert (65, components 60+), PTE and PSI Skills for English count; online LanguageCert and TOEFL Home Edition are not accepted. Our page on English tests for the UK student visa explains the difference.
Pre-sessional courses with an end-of-course test:
| Course | Entry | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| 12 weeks, 14.09–04.12.2026, for January 2027 | IELTS for UKVI 5.0, components 4.5+ | $5,560 (£4,200) |
| 6 weeks, 26.10–04.12.2026 | IELTS for UKVI 5.5, components 5.0+ | $2,780 (£2,100) |
| 8–11 months, for September 2027 | IELTS 4.0–4.5 | $11,920–16,910 (£9,010–12,780) |
Scholarships and discounts
The Russia page lists no country scholarship; Napier's regional awards target other regions such as South Asia, Latin America or Nigeria. Discounts are intake-specific: in June 2026 the university cut £1,000–3,000 off five master's courses for that start only. Realistic options for a school leaver are the Oxford International pathway scholarships; for a master's applicant, Oxford International awards on the International Incorporated Masters, the alumni discount and the UK government's Chevening. In the 2027/28 cycle, Chevening accepts Russian citizens only if they live outside Russia; the deadline is 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC. The university, the college or the funder decides on each award. More options are in our UK scholarships guide.
Deposit and payment
International students pay a non-refundable deposit from $7,940 (£6,000); the exact amount is in the offer email. It is refunded only if you change your mind within 14 days of paying or if your visa is refused (with the original unconditional offer and the refusal letter), and only to the account that paid it. The balance is paid in full or by plan: for September starters, 50% in October and 50% in January, three payments (October, January, March) or six monthly payments from October to March. Payments go through Flywire, by card or by bank transfer. Lawful routes from Russia are covered in how to pay for studies abroad from Russia.
Accommodation
The university runs three halls. Bainfield is for undergraduates aged 19 and under, Orwell Terrace for postgraduates and undergraduates aged 20 and over, and Slateford Road for nursing students, undergraduates over 20 and postgraduates on 50-week tenancies.
| Hall and room, 2026/27 | Week | Tenancy total |
|---|---|---|
| Orwell Terrace, twin-room place | $170 (£128.59) | $6,660 (£5,033.38) for 39 weeks |
| Bainfield, Orwell Terrace or Slateford Road, en-suite room | $260 (£199.78) | $10,350 (£7,819.96) for 39 weeks |
| Slateford Road, same room for 50 weeks | $260 (£199.78) | $13,450 (£10,160.24) |
| Bainfield, studio | $320 (£239.82) | $12,420 (£9,387.24) for 39 weeks |
An advance rent payment of $660 (£500) confirms the booking. First-year undergraduates from outside Edinburgh receive a room offer if they hold a firmly accepted unconditional offer and apply by 15:00 on 18 August (the 2026 date); postgraduate places are fewer and allocated first come, first served. Paying the full rent upfront earns a 2% discount. More tips are in our student housing guide.
Visa and living costs
- The CAS is issued after the deposit and once offer conditions are met; you can apply up to six months before the course starts.
- Visa fee $740 (£558); Immigration Health Surcharge $1,030 (£776) per visa year.
- Maintenance for applications from 30 November 2026: £1,203 a month, or $14,330 (£10,827) for a course of nine months or more, plus unpaid tuition, held for 28 consecutive days.
- Residents of Russia and Kazakhstan need a tuberculosis test at a GOV.UK-approved clinic.
- After graduation, the Graduate visa lasts 18 months for applications from 1 January 2027.
UK Visas and Immigration decides on the visa. See our UK student visa guide and Graduate Route guide.
Common mistakes
- Confusing Edinburgh Napier with the University of Edinburgh: entry rules, fees and degrees differ.
- Treating ENUIC as an ordinary foundation year. IS1 already counts as year one, so the degree continues in year two.
- Applying for the pathway through the university form. ENUIC has its own application, assessed by Oxford International.
- Budgeting for three years as in England. A Scottish degree is four years, one of which may be spent at ENUIC.
- Expecting the deposit back after a change of plans. After 14 days it is returned only after a visa refusal.
Plan for September 2027
- October–December 2026: choose a subject, take IELTS for UKVI, and check whether your grades fit IS1 or IS2.
- By 13 January 2027: apply through UCAS with A-levels, the IB or a university year; with an attestat, apply to ENUIC.
- Spring–early summer 2027: receive the offer, pay the deposit, apply for halls.
- Summer 2027: hold funds for 28 days, take the TB test, get the CAS and visa.
- September 2027: start; ENUIC also has November and January intakes.
FAQ
Can I enter Edinburgh Napier University straight after school?
Usually not into year one. A Russian school leaver takes International Stage One at ENUIC with an attestat average of 3/5 and IELTS 5.5. After a successful year the student continues in year two of the degree; the university confirms progression.
How much does Edinburgh Napier cost for international students?
In 2026/27, for example, BA Business Management costs $24,110 (£18,220) a year and BSc Computer Science $27,950 (£21,120). Master's fees start at $27,180 (£20,540), and a pathway year at the college is $20,890–23,760. Rates for 2027/28 will appear on course pages later.
How is International Stage One different from a foundation year?
A standard foundation year comes before the degree and leads into year one. IS1 at ENUIC is mapped to year one of a four-year Scottish degree, so students move straight into year two. The whole route takes four years rather than five.
What degree do I need for a master's at Napier?
A Russian Bakalavr or Specialist diploma averaging at least "satisfactory" (3.0) and an IELTS score of 6.0 (5.5 in each skill). If your English or academic background falls short, ENUIC offers a one- or two-term International Incorporated Masters. The university makes the admission decision.
Does Napier offer scholarships to Russian students?
There is no country scholarship for Russia. Oxford International awards up to £5,000 on IS1 and IS2, and Napier graduates receive 20% off the first master's year. Russian citizens living outside Russia can apply for Chevening, where the scholarship body decides.
Where do Edinburgh Napier students live?
In 2026/27, an en-suite room in university halls costs $260 (£199.78) a week, a twin-room place $170 and a studio $320. First-year undergraduates who apply by the August deadline receive a room offer, while postgraduates are housed in order of application.
