🇮🇳 Studying in India for international applicants

Compare medicine and IT routes

India offers English-taught engineering, IT and other programmes. Compare the exact institution, admission conditions and full costs; medicine has its own clinical and licensing requirements.

Study in India: the Taj Mahal

What makes it strong

  • Different programme budgets.
  • Strong IT and medical programs.
  • English-taught.

How local universities work

Bachelor's, master's and PhD; instruction mainly in English.

Study budget

Compare named international tariffs rather than a national price band: VIT B.Tech for 2026/27 lists $9,000 annual tuition; its 2026 M.Tech brochure lists $6,450 annually for a two-year programme. Deposits of $100 and $50 respectively are additional; the B.Tech deposit is explicitly refundable. These engineering examples do not price medicine, other institutions or every campus.

Study in India gives a general living guide of $400 per month excluding tuition, or $4,800 for an illustrative 12 months. The source warns that cities differ. This is neither a confirmed VIT dormitory quote nor a spending ceiling. Check whether the university invoice already includes housing or meals before adding them again.

One B.Tech year plus that general living guide is $13,800 before the deposit and missing categories. The equivalent M.Tech calculation is $11,250 for one year, not the whole programme. Check insurance, flights, visa and registration charges, laboratory fees and actual housing separately.

For a lower budget, compare specific programmes and campuses, shared housing and the whole study duration. Count a scholarship or fee waiver only after a written award. For medicine, assess entry requirements, clinical training and licensing in your intended practice country before treating a low advertised fee as a viable route.

How StudyU supports your application

Under an agreement with StudyU, we show tuition, requirements and timing before the application and build the route around your chosen country, university and programme. The university decides admission, and the competent authority decides the visa or residence permit.

Visa and arrival

Check the applicable study visa or residence route for your nationality, age, programme and duration with the competent authority. Confirm the documents, funding, charges and timing before travel; an offer does not guarantee permission or extension. Check FRRO/FRO registration requirements and the conditions printed on the visa; the application channel and deadline are not identical for every status.

Student life and budget

Campus housing, meals and transport can make a route easier to budget, but confirm charges and availability in writing. Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune have different living conditions. Check teaching and clinical languages, insurance and the whole accommodation period before comparing with another country.

Recognition and careers

The receiving institution assesses recognition for further study; the competent body decides access to a regulated profession. Check the programme, award and intended destination. Teaching language or international branding does not replace this assessment. For medicine, check clinical training and eligibility for professional examinations. Campus recruitment or nearby employers do not guarantee employment or a work status.

Clarify these before you apply

Is the specific program accredited (not just the university), and is it recognised where you plan to build your career? Who confirms dormitory availability for international students? What fees sit beyond tuition - labs, deposits, vacation housing? How does the international office run FRRO registration? Clear written answers are the filter we run for every student before any deposit.

Who this destination fits

India may suit applicants whose programme, entry profile, language and full budget fit. Compare engineering, IT and other fields individually; medicine is not a general low-cost shortcut. Recognition requirements and a personalised budget are reviewed under an agreement with StudyU; the competent recognition authority makes the recognition decision.

How to apply to India

The institution assesses the exact school qualification, subjects, grades and language. For an 11-year certificate, confirm equivalence and programme eligibility before paying. Preparation or exams may be required; a language course alone does not establish academic eligibility. MD routes require separate checks of prior education and medical entry conditions.

Admission after school and master's

Master’s admission depends on the previous degree, relevant subjects, grades and language. Check programme-specific requirements, full duration and the fee period; a bachelor’s diploma does not guarantee admission. More: study-abroad guide.
