SIM in brief

The Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) is a private education institution founded in 1964 on the initiative of Singapore's Economic Development Board. Through SIM Global Education it teaches diplomas and degrees awarded by partner universities such as the University of London, the University at Buffalo, RMIT and the University of Birmingham. Fees depend on the partner: an LSE-developed University of London economics degree costs about $36,134 (S$46,155) in total.

SIM Global Education has about 17,000 students, roughly 41% of them international, on a campus at 461 Clementi Road. It is not a university in its own right: the degree certificate comes from the partner, and SIM provides the teaching, campus and student services in Singapore.

SIM makes sense if you:

  • want a British, Australian or American degree while living in Singapore;
  • are comparing partners by degree reputation, cost and length side by side;
  • are disciplined enough for programmes that mix local teaching with the partner's online resources.

SIM is a weaker fit if you:

  • want a Singapore public university degree (NUS, NTU, SMU);
  • are uneasy about a degree certificate issued by a partner rather than by the institution where you study.

Status, partners and EduTrust Star

Singapore Institute of Management Pte Ltd, which offers programmes under SIM Global Education, was among the first institutions registered under the Enhanced Registration Framework. SIM GE has held EduTrust certification since May 2010, received EduTrust Star in August 2022 and renewed it in August 2026. EduTrust matters in practice: only EduTrust-certified private institutions may enrol students on a Student's Pass.

  • EduTrust Star since 2022, renewed in August 2026
  • Partners in the UK, Australia, the US, Canada and France
  • Founded in 1964 with an EDB grant

SIM lists partners including the University of London, University of Birmingham, University of Warwick, Cardiff University, University of Stirling, RMIT University, the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, Monash College, the University at Buffalo, University of Alberta and Grenoble Ecole de Management.

Campus life

Degree programmes run on the Clementi Road campus. SIM lists more than 70 student clubs, and international students get pre-arrival support, a buddy programme and help with the Student's Pass application.

Choosing a partner and programme

The main decision at SIM is not the major but the awarding university, because it sets the curriculum, exams, length and price.

How to apply for 2027

Applications go through SIM's online portal for each programme. Entry for University of London degrees normally means A-level-type qualifications; for other school systems SIM refers applicants to its international prospectus, and the University of London International Foundation Certificate is a published route for those who need a bridge.

University at Buffalo BSc Business AdministrationMay 202715 December 2026 – 29 March 2027 (international)

Leave at least two months after the offer for the Student's Pass: ICA processes applications for EduTrust institutions within two weeks in most cases, but documents and payments take longer.

English, maths and common mistakes

For University of London degrees, one accepted English route is IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component; the Economics degree also sets a mathematics requirement such as O-level maths at C6 or IB maths at grade 3. Each partner lists its own conditions on the programme page.

Mistakes to avoid:

  • comparing SIM options only by the SIM price and ignoring the partner's own module fees for UOL degrees;
  • choosing a partner by brand without checking its intake months;
  • missing a January deadline because another partner's deadline was later;
  • leaving the housing search until after arrival.

Add rent, insurance and daily costs in Singapore. Advanced standing from A-levels, a polytechnic diploma or the IB can cut the Buffalo total noticeably, so submit full transcripts.

Scholarships and financial aid

SIM Global Education runs the SIM STARRR Award for new undergraduates, open to outstanding local and international students and tenable for the minimum course length. New international diploma students can apply for the SIM GE Academic Excellence or Merit Scholarship, which cover course fees with no bond.

Careers and further study

Graduates hold a degree from the partner university, which is what employers and master's admissions read. SIM's description of the University of London economics degree says it prepares students for graduate study in economics locally or overseas; Buffalo graduates can continue in the US system. Staying to work in Singapore depends on an employer obtaining a work pass, so internships during the degree matter.
