Study in New Zealand: Auckland Sky Tower

Why choose this country

  • High quality and safety.
  • Post-study work options for eligible graduates.
  • English-speaking environment.

The university system

A British degree model. Part-time work and post-graduation work are possible.

New Zealand: check intake year and study load

University of Auckland publishes fees by programme and year. These examples use a full 120-point load in 2026; the next intake can have different fees.

ScenarioApproximate USD
University of Auckland BA excluding performance and science-based courses: 2026, annual$23,200
University of Auckland BCom: 2026, annual$27,700
University of Auckland: Student Services Fee for 120 points in 2026$700
Auckland: shared-flat example, stated expenses over 52 weeks in 2026$12,900

Auckland’s shared-flat example includes rent, utilities, internet, household insurance, food, transport and recreation membership. Household insurance does not replace medical cover. The 52-week calculation illustrates those categories; it is not a sufficient budget for every student.

The 2026 BA example is $23,200 tuition + $700 student services fee + $12,900 of stated expenses over 52 weeks = about $36,800. This is a subtotal: check medical insurance, study materials, flights, visa charges, deposits and personal spending absent from the calculation.

Separate 2027 tuition estimates are published, but confirm the student services fee once set. Foundation and master’s study have their own fees and durations. Do not apply a 120-point tariff to a different study load.

If your budget is limited

Compare the subject across cities and the full degree cost. Obtain confirmation of any transferred credits before reducing the duration in your budget.

What to prepare next

Include the start year, programme, previous qualification and any potential credit transfers. This identifies the appropriate fee and budget duration.

Rounded amounts are shown in US dollars for comparison, using ECB reference rates from 2026. The programme and its provider’s terms determine the final fee. Count housing and other categories once. Check what the university calculation includes; add only missing expenses and StudyU fees separately. A deposit can require funds before studies start. Do not add proof of funds again to expenses those same funds cover.

How StudyU supports your application

Under an agreement with StudyU, we compare agreed New Zealand programmes, check entry and English requirements, and help prepare the application and student-visa documents. Each university decides admission, and Immigration New Zealand decides the student visa.

Visa and student rules

Your student visa conditions may allow up to 25 hours of work a week during study and full-time work in specified holidays. Check the conditions on your visa; future income does not replace confirmed study and living funds. A complete file does not guarantee processing time or approval.

Cities and budget

Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin offer different housing and transport choices. Compare a current room offer, the full rental period and the distance to campus. Insurance and initial payments need their own check; prospective part-time earnings should not fund essential costs.

Recognition and how we apply

Master’s admission separately assesses the degree, relevant subjects, grades and language. Professional registration and later admission abroad are decided by the responsible body or institution, rather than the degree title alone.

Questions to ask before applying

Does my certificate need a foundation year, or is direct entry possible? Which first-year scholarships apply automatically to internationals? Who confirms first-year housing availability? What post-study work rights follow my exact program? These answers shape both the budget and the career plan. StudyU helps request them in writing at the shortlist stage; the university or provider confirms each term.

Who this destination fits

New Zealand fits those seeking a calm English-speaking country with quality education, work rights during study and a legal track to stay after graduation. Western budget, transparent rules, no lotteries. Start 8-10 months ahead. Under an agreement with StudyU, support can cover the agreed shortlist, documents, applications and follow-up; each university makes the admission decision.

How to apply to New Zealand

The university assesses the qualification against the selected programme. If the certificate is insufficient, options may include Foundation, recognised prior study or an appropriate diploma. Before paying, check progression, credit recognition and total duration: completing preparation does not establish automatic admission.

What the degree gives

A Post Study Work Visa requires a separate application and an eligible qualification. Permission can last up to three years, but duration and work conditions depend on the qualification, programme and study period. Graduation does not guarantee a job or permanent residence. What studying in New Zealand costs

Compare the same intake, study load and accommodation period. Do not add housing or financial evidence again to expenses already covered. Preparation and extra semesters need separate calculations; StudyU services are accounted for under the agreement.
