About Sabancı University

Campus - Sabanci University

Sabancı University, established in 1994, became Turkey’s highest-ranked foundation university in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and is designated by the Ministry of Higher Education (YÖK) as one of the country’s few official research centered universities. Located about 40 kilometers from Istanbul’s city center, the 1.26 million square meter campus was strategically built away from the city’s congestion, offering students a quiet but well-connected place to focus on their studies while still having easy access to Istanbul’s business and cultural scene. The campus is fully equipped with modern facilities, including dormitories, sports centers, research labs, and features a large lake at its center, adding to its natural beauty.

Sabanci University

Sabancı University was founded by Sabancı Holding, one of Turkey’s largest and most influential business conglomerates, with investments in banking, energy, industry, retail, and technology. This corporate backing gives students unique advantages, including strong industry connections, internship opportunities, and hands-on collaboration with leading companies. Many Sabancı University graduates secure jobs within Sabancı Group companies or use the extensive alumni network to launch careers in multinational corporations.

Sabancı University's Unique Education Model

What makes Sabancı University different is its flexible education model, which sets it apart from traditional universities in Turkey. Instead of forcing students to choose a major before starting, Sabancı University offers a common foundation year, where students take courses in multiple disciplines before selecting their field of study. This approach ensures that students make an informed decision about their major based on their interests and abilities, rather than being locked into a program they might not enjoy. It also allows students to switch majors later in their studies, a unique feature in higher education.

Sabancı University offers a wide range of minor programs. A minor consists of a smaller set of courses from another discipline, giving students the opportunity to develop skills that complement their primary studies. Many students take advantage of this flexibility to enhance their career prospects, for example, an engineering student might minor in Business Analytics to strengthen data analysis skills, while a social sciences student might choose Energy Studies to explore sustainability and policy. This approach enables students to customize their education, making them more adaptable and competitive in the job market.

Sabanci University

A lesser-known fact about Sabancı University is its commitment to research and innovation. It is home to SU Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM), one of Turkey’s most advanced research facilities, focusing on biotechnology, materials science, and energy research. The university also works closely with industry giants like ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, and Roketsan in aerospace and defense projects, giving students access to real-world applications of their studies.

Sabanci is ranked 404th in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and 148th in QS Europe 2026. It is in the 351-400 band of the THE World University Rankings 2026.

THE's 2026 subject results place Social Sciences in the 151-175 band, Engineering and Business and Economics in 301-400, and Computer Science in 401-500. Rankings show research visibility, but applicants should still review the laboratories, faculty and curriculum of the intended major.

Admission Requirements of Sabancı University

Applicants submit a passport, diploma or expected-graduation letter, transcript and evidence supporting their academic profile. The review can consider international examinations, motivation, recommendations, projects and extracurricular achievement in the context of the chosen faculty.

All bachelor's programs are English-medium. Applicants need an accepted certificate or university assessment. A strong SAT or another accepted result can support admission and merit review, but a formal minimum does not guarantee either outcome.

The three academic divisions are the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and School of Management. Programs include Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Materials Science and Nanoengineering, Molecular Biology, Genetics and Bioengineering, Economics, Psychology, Political Science and International Relations, Management, and Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.

Tuition Fees at Sabancı University

Current full tuition for every bachelor's program is $36,500 per year. Housing, food, insurance, residence-permit costs and personal expenses are separate. Any preparatory study should be checked independently.

Plan from the full amount until an official offer confirms a tuition waiver. The letter should state its percentage, payment deadline, duration and renewal conditions.

Sabancı University Scholarships

International applicants are automatically considered for a merit-based tuition waiver during admission review. The current published range is up to 75%, but the maximum is not guaranteed. Academic results, examinations, achievements, references and the overall strength of the file can all contribute.

A strong standardised test may improve the profile, but it is not a separate purchase of a scholarship. Entry awards should also be distinguished from internal scholarships for current students, which have different eligibility and competition.

StudyU can help organise a coherent application and review the financial offer. Sabanci makes the admission and tuition-waiver decisions.

Using Sabanci's faculty-first model

Explore without losing structure

Students enter a faculty, complete a shared foundation and choose a major after gaining university-level experience. This works well for applicants with more than one serious interest, but every major still has prerequisites. First-year choices should keep two realistic routes open.

Engineering and Natural Sciences

Computer Science and Engineering focuses on algorithms, systems and software; Electronics on circuits, signals and control; Industrial Engineering on optimisation, data and operations; Mechatronics on integrated mechanical and electronic systems. Materials and molecular-biology programs are more laboratory-intensive. Compare required courses and active research groups.

Social Sciences, Arts and Management

Economics requires mathematics and econometrics; Psychology combines statistics, research methods and ethics; Political Science and International Relations emphasises institutions, data and writing. Visual Arts builds a production portfolio, while Management is most valuable when strengthened by analytics, entrepreneurship or an industry focus.

Plan a minor carefully

A minor can make sense when it supports a goal: engineering with management, economics with data, or psychology with social analysis. It should not delay graduation or displace research and internships. Map prerequisites and exchange plans several semesters ahead.

Turn research reputation into experience

Rankings matter when students gain access to projects and mentors. Review faculty research and the SUNUM ecosystem, build the basic technical or analytical skills required, and approach a group with a specific interest rather than a generic request.

Financial sustainability

Multiply $36,500 by the expected years of study and add housing before applying a confirmed waiver. Model preparatory study and unexpected costs. A plan that works only with an unconfirmed maximum award is not financially secure.

Campus life in Tuzla

On-campus housing keeps laboratories, library, sport and student organisations close. Living centrally offers more city access but creates a demanding commute. For many first-year international students, the residential option simplifies academic and social adjustment.

From first year to career

Explore roles in year one, build a substantial project in year two, pursue a focused internship in year three, and connect the capstone or thesis to employment or graduate study. The Sabanci name opens conversations, but employers and graduate schools still need evidence of work.
