Data Science and Analytics in Turkey at a glance
Data Science and Analytics is a young four-year bachelor’s in Turkey that combines statistics, programming and machine learning with business analytics. The two Istanbul universities on this page, Topkapı (Turkish-taught) and Atlas (English-taught), do not publish a dated 2026–27 international fee, so ask each for a written quote. For comparison, two close English-taught alternatives do publish 2026–27 fees: Bahçeşehir’s Artificial Intelligence Engineering at $12 000 a year and Özyeğin’s Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at $25 000 a year before scholarships.
- Length: eight semesters, plus a language preparatory year if needed.
- Home faculty: varies: engineering, economics and administrative sciences, or a faculty of science. The faculty tells you whether the degree leans to computing, statistics or business.
- Maths load: calculus, linear algebra and probability run through the first two years in every version.
- Language: Atlas lists its department, in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, as English-taught; Topkapı teaches its programme in Turkish.
What a data science curriculum covers
A good data science bachelor’s gives you three toolkits: mathematical statistics, software engineering for data, and domain judgement about what a result means for a business or institution. The outline below is the usual order; the university’s Bologna package lists the actual courses and credits.

Look for a capstone with an outside partner and for courses on data privacy: under Turkey’s personal-data protection law (KVKK) and the EU’s GDPR, handling personal data is a legal as well as a technical skill.
Entry requirements for international applicants
- School certificate with solid maths results. Universities do not all name a maths minimum, but your transcript is the first thing a data science department looks at. Holders of an 11-year certificate from Russia or other CIS countries should confirm eligibility in advance.
- Exams. Private universities accept school grades, SAT or YÖS results in different combinations; a strong SAT maths section helps where scores are accepted. The 2026 TR-YÖS/1 sitting took place on 12 April 2026.
- Language. English-taught programmes ask for TOEFL iBT or an equivalent; Bahçeşehir, for example, needs TOEFL iBT 72 or PTE Academic 55 and does not accept IELTS or Duolingo. Turkish-taught programmes such as Topkapı’s require Turkish at about C1 or a preparatory year.
- After admission: the diploma equivalence certificate from the Ministry of National Education and a student residence permit.
How to compare data science programmes
- Faculty and title. An engineering degree (for example AI or data engineering) usually carries more software and systems work; a degree in an economics faculty more statistics and business cases. Neither is better; pick the one closer to the job you want.
- Staff and research. Check whether instructors publish in machine learning or statistics, and whether students can join their projects.
- Computing resources. Ask about GPU access, cloud credits and the software stack used in teaching.
- Accreditation. Engineering versions can be accredited by MÜDEK, and science-faculty versions by FEDEK, both registered with YÖKAK. Newly opened programmes cannot be accredited until they have graduates, so a missing accreditation is normal for them.
- Internships. Ask which banks, telecoms, e-commerce or consulting firms have taken recent interns.
Careers after a data science degree
Entry roles include data analyst, business-intelligence analyst, junior data scientist, machine-learning engineer (usually after further experience) and data engineer. Employers include banks, insurers, telecoms, e-commerce and logistics firms, consultancies and the public sector. No licence is needed; employers test your skills directly, often with a take-home task or a technical interview, so a portfolio of projects on GitHub matters as much as your grades.
Working in Turkey after graduation requires a work permit. A master’s degree remains common for research-oriented machine-learning roles in Turkey and abroad.

Budgeting for 2026–27
Neither Topkapı nor Atlas publishes a 2026–27 international fee that we could verify, so treat both as “price on request”. For orientation, Bahçeşehir lists $12 000 a year for Artificial Intelligence Engineering, and Özyeğin lists $25 000 a year for Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering, with sample scholarship outcomes of $15 000, $12 500 and $10 000 at 40%, 50% and 60%; Özyeğin considers all applicants for these scholarships automatically. Beyond tuition, plan for a capable laptop, housing, health insurance and the residence permit.
Common questions
Yes. Atlas University lists an English-taught Data Science and Analytics bachelor’s, and Bahçeşehir and Özyeğin teach closely related AI and data engineering degrees in English. Topkapı’s programme is Turkish-taught.
Topkapı and Atlas publish no dated 2026–27 fee, so ask for a quote. Bahçeşehir’s AI Engineering is $12 000 a year and Özyeğin’s AI and Data Engineering $25 000 a year before scholarships.
Expect calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics in the first two years. Good school maths results are the most important part of your application.
Engineering versions go deeper into software and systems; business-faculty versions into statistics and decision-making. Choose by the roles you want after graduation.
Engineering programmes can be accredited by MÜDEK and science programmes by FEDEK. New programmes need graduates before they can apply, so ask each university about its status and plans.
Data analyst, business-intelligence analyst, junior data scientist and data engineer are common first roles, in banking, telecoms, e-commerce, logistics and consulting.
