Coaching Training at Gelisim: the short answer

Coaching Training is how Istanbul Gelisim University translates Antrenörlük Eğitimi, a four-year sport-sciences bachelor's that prepares coaches to plan, deliver and evaluate training. Gelisim is the only university in our catalogue that runs the degree in English as well as in Turkish; its latest published fee list (2025/26) shows $4,000 a year for the English track and $3,500 for the Turkish one.

Most other Turkish universities call the same degree Coaching Education, and teach it in Turkish; those options (Yeni Yuzyil, Gedik, Halic, Topkapi, Galata) are compared on the Coaching Education page. If English-medium teaching matters to you, Gelisim is the one to look at first.

Courses in Gelisim's coaching programme

Gelisim's faculty page lists the courses without semester numbers, so the cards below group them by stage. The list starts with practical sports and the body: gymnastics, athletics, swimming and fitness sit next to functional anatomy, exercise physiology and first aid. Pedagogy is a real strand too, with Sport Pedagogy, Principles and Methods of Teaching and a course on children and sport, because coaches spend much of their time teaching movement.

The later semesters move to performance science: biomechanics, kinesiology, talent selection, measuring sports performance, training models, and training planning and periodisation. A vocational project and a course on sport for people with special needs close the programme.

Who the English track suits

A sensible choice if you…

  • Already train or compete and want to coach with a scientific base, not only from experience.
  • Prefer to study in English now and pick up Turkish for club placements along the way.
  • Want a low-cost private-university degree in Istanbul.

Probably not for you if you…

Entry and language for international students

Gelisim assesses international applicants on the school diploma and transcript. For the English track you need an English result the university accepts or a pass in its own proficiency exam (IGUYET); for the Turkish track you need Turkish at the level set by the university, and its Turkish preparatory school costs $1,750 a year on the 2025/26 list.

  • Physical tests: Turkish students enter sport-sciences faculties through special-talent exams; ask Gelisim whether any practical test applies to your intake before you pay a deposit.
  • Payment at registration: Gelisim asks for half of the programme fee before registration is finalised.
  • No vertical transfer: Gelisim states that the department does not accept vertical transfer from associate degrees.

Careers, coaching licences and what the degree does not give

Gelisim describes three routes for graduates: branch-specific coaching in sports clubs, coaching in public bodies, municipalities and fitness or wellness centres, and graduate study leading to academic work. It adds that graduates who complete pedagogical training can teach in schools.

A degree is not the same as a coaching licence. Sports federations run their own certificate levels; Marmara University, for example, says its coaching graduates receive a level-3 certificate from the federation of their branch. In football, the UEFA licence ladder (C, B, A and Pro) is run by national associations, so check early how the country where you want to coach treats a Turkish coaching degree.

How StudyU helps future coaches

A personal strategy, requirement checks, selection of agreed options, document preparation, applications, and support are provided under an agreement with StudyU. For coaching we compare the English and Turkish tracks, check your English or Turkish results against Gelisim's rules, and prepare the diploma translations and equivalence file. Gelisim decides admission and discounts, the consulate decides the visa and the migration authority issues the residence permit.
