Coaching Education in Turkey: the short answer

Coaching Education (Antrenörlük Eğitimi) is a four-year bachelor's in a faculty of sport sciences that trains coaches in exercise science, training theory and athlete development. For international students it is almost always taught in Turkish: in our catalogue, published fees range from $2,800 (Galata, 2024/25 list) to $5,000 a year (Yeni Yuzyil for 2026/27 and Gedik on its 2025/26 list).

The same degree appears in English as Coaching Training at Istanbul Gelisim University, which also offers an English-taught track; if you do not speak Turkish, start with the Coaching Training page instead.

What the course plan looks like

Yeni Yuzyil's 2026 curriculum and Gedik's Sports Coaching plan follow a very similar path. The first year builds the scientific base (anatomy, kinesiology, basic physiology, movement training); the second and third years add training science, exercise physiology, sports psychology, motor development and athlete nutrition, then competition analysis, biomechanics and long-term athlete development.

The final year is largely practical. Both universities list vocational-education application and evaluation courses in the seventh and eighth semesters, alongside a research project in sport sciences, so expect to spend much of your last year inside a club or sports organisation. Gedik also teaches child protection in sport and coaching ethics.

How much Turkish you need

Plan for upper-intermediate Turkish (B2) before the first lecture. Coaching is taught through spoken instruction on the field, and the placement year puts you in front of Turkish-speaking athletes. Universities usually accept a B2 certificate from a university Turkish centre (TÖMER) or test you on arrival; Okan, for example, publishes exactly that rule and places anyone below the level into a Turkish preparatory year.

A preparatory year adds twelve months and its own fee, so it is often cheaper to reach B2 before you apply.

Who the Turkish-taught degree suits

Good fit if you…

  • Speak Turkish, or come from a Turkic-language background and can reach B2 quickly.
  • Want to coach in Turkish clubs or in communities where Turkish is spoken.
  • Want the lowest tuition among private universities for a sport-sciences degree.

Consider alternatives if you…

  • Need English-medium teaching; Gelisim's English track is the realistic option.
  • Are mainly interested in fitness training or health promotion; Exercise and Sports Sciences is closer.

How to choose between the universities

  • Fee year: only Yeni Yuzyil has published a 2026/27 list; Gedik's latest is 2025/26, Galata's 2024/25 and Halic's list shows no year. Ask each university to confirm the current fee in writing.
  • Scholarship format: Yeni Yuzyil's list shows $5,000 as the normal fee and $2,500 with its 50% scholarship; compare what you would actually pay, not the headline.
  • Branch choice: Gedik says the last two years specialise in a sports branch, so check that yours is offered.
  • Placement partners: ask which clubs host final-year students and whether they coach your sport.
  • Campus and facilities: a pool, athletics track and indoor halls matter more here than in most degrees.

Careers after Coaching Education

Graduates coach in clubs and academies, work as conditioning or performance staff, run youth development programmes, and join municipal sports services and private fitness centres. Research and university teaching require a master's.

The degree does not replace the certificates that sports federations issue. In football, for instance, coaching licences (UEFA C to Pro) come from national associations. Working in Turkey after graduation also depends on a work permit, which the employer applies for.

How StudyU helps coaching applicants

A personal strategy, requirement checks, selection of agreed options, document preparation, applications, and support are provided under an agreement with StudyU. For Coaching Education we confirm each university's current fee and Turkish rule, check that your sport is covered in the specialisation years, and prepare the diploma and equivalence documents. Admission and any scholarship are the university's call; a Turkish consulate rules on the visa, and the provincial migration office on the residence permit.
