Sports Management in Turkey

Sports Management (Spor Yöneticiliği) in Turkey is a four-year bachelor's taught mostly in Turkish, usually inside a faculty of sport sciences, that combines business subjects with sport-specific law, marketing and event operations. Published bachelor's fees on this page run from $2,700 to $5,000 a year; the only 2026/27-labelled figure is Okan's $4,500. A two-year associate route and master's programmes are also available.

Unlike coaching or physical-education teaching degrees, sports management trains people to run the organisations around sport: clubs and federations, fitness chains, event organisers, sports media and sponsorship agencies, and municipal sport services. Istanbul's big clubs, frequent international events and the fitness sector give students a live market to observe.

Most programmes are Turkish-taught. Haliç also lists an English-taught track, so a student without Turkish can start in English and learn Turkish alongside, which matters for internships with local clubs and event companies.

Some faculties still require practical sport courses, such as swimming or team sports, in the first years. If you have a health condition that limits physical activity, check the list of compulsory practical courses before applying.

State universities often use a special talent exam (özel yetenek sınavı) for sport-sciences programmes, but foundation universities that publish international quotas typically assess international applicants on documents. Plan for:

• a completed school-leaving certificate and transcript meeting the university's minimum grade, such as 3 out of 5 for CIS attestats at Üsküdar or 50% overall at İstinye;
• Turkish at B2 from a recognised TÖMER or the Yunus Emre Institute, or the university's own exam, for Turkish-taught tracks; Haliç lists TÖMER C1 for its Turkish programmes;
• an English score such as TOEFL iBT 75, IELTS 6.5 or PTE 58 for Haliç's English track, or its preparatory programme;
• the equivalence certificate (denklik) for your school diploma after admission;
• a bachelor's diploma and transcript for master's entry, with Turkish proficiency for Turkish-taught graduate programmes.

Sports achievements, coaching certificates and volunteer work at events are not always required, but they strengthen a motivation letter and help when you look for internships.

1. A year before. Compare Sports Management with Coaching and Recreation and decide on Turkish or Haliç's English track.
2. Six to nine months before. Start Turkish or take an English test, collect school documents and note any sports or event experience.
3. Application. Apply online and ask whether the programme has a physical test or medical report for international applicants.
4. After acceptance. Pay the deposit shown in the letter and apply for a student visa; the consulate decides.
5. On arrival. Register, obtain denklik and apply for the residence permit, which the migration authority decides.

• Faculty home. A programme inside a faculty of sport sciences has more practical sport content; one closer to business schools leans on finance and marketing.
• Industry links. Ask which clubs, federations, fitness chains or event companies take interns and whether the university hosts tournaments.
• Facilities. Check the sports hall, fitness centre and pool you will use for practical courses and event projects.
• Language. Turkish tracks dominate; confirm that an English track teaches its core courses in English.
• Graduate options. Okan, Nişantaşı and Gelişim run master's programmes in sports management with and without a thesis.

Graduates work in club administration and operations, federation and league offices, event and tournament management, sponsorship and sports marketing agencies, fitness and leisure chains, sports media and ticketing, and municipal or university sport departments. Some move on to athlete representation, which in football and other sports is governed by federation rules.

There is no state licence for sports managers, so employers look for evidence: internships, event credits, languages and a network. Volunteering at international tournaments held in Turkey is one of the fastest ways to build that record. International graduates who want to stay in Turkey need a work permit, which the employer applies for.
