Physical Education and Sports Teaching in Turkey: the short answer
Physical Education and Sports Teaching is a four-year, Turkish-taught teacher-education bachelor's offered by schools or faculties of sport sciences. It combines sport science (anatomy, physiology, training theory) with teaching methods and school placements. Istanbul Gedik University's latest published list (2025–26) charges $5 000 a year, Haliç University lists the programme without a dated fee, and Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University offers a Physical Education and Sport master's at $4 000 for the whole programme (2026–27).

This is a teaching degree first. If you mainly want to coach athletes, manage clubs or work in fitness, compare coaching education, sports management or exercise and sport sciences, which have different placements and career routes.
What you study
The curriculum alternates between the gym, the classroom and schools. Practical courses cover a wide range of sports because a PE teacher must teach many of them; theory courses give the scientific basis for training children safely; pedagogy courses and school placements train you to plan and manage lessons.

Entry and aptitude test
Sport-sciences schools often assess physical ability as well as academic documents. Read the university’s announcement for your intake.
- Special aptitude test. Many programmes run a practical test, for example an agility or coordination course, sprint and endurance tasks, or a sports-skills demonstration; ask whether international applicants take it on campus.
- School certificate and transcript. Translations and, after admission, the equivalence certificate (denklik) from the Ministry of National Education.
- Health report. A medical certificate confirming you can take part in physical training is commonly required.
- Turkish. A certificate at the university’s level or a preparatory year; teaching practice in schools is in Turkish.
- Master’s applicants. A relevant bachelor’s, a statement of purpose and sometimes ALES and an interview.
The university decides the aptitude-test result and admission; the Presidency of Migration Management decides the student residence permit.

Gedik had not published a 2026–27 list when we checked on 29 September 2026. Yeni Yüzyıl’s 2026–27 graduate list gives a total amount for the thesis master’s in Physical Education and Sport, with a standard duration of four semesters.
Careers after sports teaching
Graduates teach physical education in private schools, work as coaches and instructors in clubs, sports academies and municipal sports centres, run school sports programmes and summer camps, and move into fitness, recreation and sports administration. A master’s leads to university teaching and research in sport sciences.
In Turkey, permanent teaching posts in state schools are civil-service positions filled through the national KPSS exam and generally open to Turkish citizens, so international graduates mostly work in private schools, clubs and academies, with a work permit. Abroad, the education authority of each country decides whether a foreign teaching degree leads to certification, often after a comparison of teaching-practice hours or an adaptation period.
