What this degree covers
Management engineering (in Turkish, işletme mühendisliği) is a four-year engineering bachelor's that applies mathematics, statistics and optimisation to running organisations: production, projects, finance and strategy. Bahçeşehir University teaches it in English in its School of Engineering and Natural Sciences for $9,000 a year (2026/27).
The programme sits between industrial engineering and business administration. Like an engineering degree, it starts with calculus, linear algebra, physics and programming; like a business degree, it adds accounting, economics, marketing and organisational behaviour. The result is an analyst who can build a model and also explain it to managers.
Graduates receive an engineering degree, which some employers in Turkey and the CIS value for analytical and management-trainee positions. If you are sure you want a pure business career, a business administration degree is cheaper and lighter on mathematics.
What you study
The first two years build the quantitative core; the last two apply it to operations, finance and strategy through projects and case studies.
- Calculus I–II
- Linear algebra
- Physics
- Introduction to programming
- Introduction to economics
- Probability and statistics
- Operations research
- Accounting and cost analysis
- Production systems
- Organisational behaviour
- Project management
- Financial engineering and investment analysis
- Quality management
- Supply-chain and logistics systems
- Summer internship
- Strategic management
- Data analytics for decision-making
- Technical electives
- Senior design project with a company
Projects grow in size each year: a costing model for a small workshop in the second year, a production or logistics improvement study in the third, and in the final year a senior project in which a team works on a real problem proposed by a company.
Expect software in most courses: spreadsheets and optimisation solvers from the second year, and statistics or programming tools such as Python or R for data analysis.
Entry requirements for international applicants
Bahçeşehir admits international applicants on school records and English level; no national exam is required.
- School certificate. Secondary-school diploma and transcript with solid mathematics; the equivalence document is completed at registration.
- English. Exemption from preparatory English with TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 55, Cambridge CAE grade C or 60 in Bahçeşehir's own exam. IELTS, TOEFL Home Edition, PTE Online and Duolingo are not accepted.
- Exemption by schooling. Students who completed the last three years of secondary school in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand or South Africa are exempt from the English exam.
- Master's applicants. For engineering-management master's degrees you need a bachelor's diploma and transcript; Bahçeşehir's general master's threshold is TOEFL iBT 79 or PTE 67.
How to decide if management engineering fits
- Management engineering or industrial engineering? Industrial engineering is more technical (production systems, simulation, ergonomics); management engineering adds more finance, economics and strategy.
- Management engineering or business administration? Choose the engineering degree if you like mathematics and want a quantitative profile; choose business if you prefer people, marketing or entrepreneurship.
- Accreditation and projects. Ask about engineering accreditation, company-sponsored senior projects and double-major options.
- Budget. At $9,000 a year the degree costs more than many business programmes in Istanbul; compare total cost with your expected career path.
- Later specialisation. Engineering-management master's degrees at Okan and TED University let you add the management layer after a different engineering bachelor's.
Universities offering Management Engineering
Published fees for management engineering and engineering-management programmes, with the academic year each university states.

| University | Degree | Language | Tuition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bahcesehir University | Bachelor | English | $9,000/yr (2026/27) · fee source |
| Okan University — Engineering Management, non-thesis | Master | Turkish | $3,500 total (2026/27) · fee source |
| Okan University — Engineering Management, thesis | Master | Turkish | $4,500 total (2026/27) · fee source |
| TED University — Engineering Management | Master | English | $8,000 total (year not stated) · fee source |
| Gedik University — Engineering Management | PhD | Turkish | $7,500 (2025/26) · fee source |
| Bahcesehir University | PhD | Turkish | $40,000 total (2026/27) · fee source |
Bachelor's fees are per year; Okan's, TEDU's and Bahçeşehir's graduate fees cover the whole programme. Gedik's 2025/26 list does not specify whether its PhD fee is annual. TEDU is in Ankara; the others are in Istanbul.
What it costs
Four years at Bahçeşehir's 2026/27 fee come to $36,000 in tuition. If you need English preparation, add a year; ask the university for its preparatory fee when you receive the offer.
For graduates of other engineering fields, a master's is far cheaper: $3,500–4,500 for the whole programme at Okan (Turkish) or $8,000 at TEDU (English).
Scholarships, where offered, are decided by the university after it reviews your application, so ask about them before you accept an offer rather than after registration.
Include rent, transport, residence permit, health insurance and a laptop suited to engineering software in your budget.
Careers after management engineering
Graduates work where analysis meets management:
- business or operations analyst;
- project engineer or project manager assistant;
- management trainee in banks, manufacturing and retail groups;
- supply-chain or production planner;
- consultant in management and technology consulting firms.
Many graduates continue to an MBA or a master's in finance, data analytics or engineering management after a few years of work. Employment in Turkey requires a work permit arranged by the employer.
Is this program right for you?
It clicks if you…
- You like mathematics but want to work with people and organisations rather than machines.
- You enjoy structuring messy problems into models.
- You want an English-taught engineering degree in central Istanbul.
Consider carefully if…
- You dislike calculus and physics, which fill much of the first two years.
- Your budget is under $5,000 a year; business or economics programmes are more affordable.
How to apply
- Nine to twelve months ahead: take TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or a Cambridge exam at an accepted test centre.
- Application: apply through Bahçeşehir's international portal with passport, school documents and English certificate.
- Offer: pay the deposit requested in the offer, receive the acceptance letter and apply for a student visa.
- Arrival: register in Istanbul, complete the equivalence procedure and apply for the residence permit.
FAQ about the program
Yes. Bahçeşehir University teaches its Management Engineering bachelor's in English over four years.
Bahçeşehir lists $9,000 a year for its School of Engineering and Natural Sciences in 2026/27, about $36,000 for four years before scholarships.
They overlap. In Turkey, management engineering is usually a bachelor's degree, while engineering management is more often a master's programme for engineers moving into management.
Not at Bahçeşehir, which does not accept IELTS. Use TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, a Cambridge exam or the university's own test.
Analyst, planning, project and consulting roles, and management-trainee programmes in banks and large companies are typical starting points.
A lot in the first two years: two semesters of calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, then operations research. If your school maths is weak, plan extra preparation before you start.
If you already have or plan an engineering bachelor's, an engineering-management master's at Okan costs $3,500–4,500 for the whole programme (2026/27, Turkish-taught).
