Child Development in Turkey

Child development (Çocuk Gelişimi) is taught in Turkey as a two-year associate degree and as a four-year bachelor's in health sciences. It prepares you to assess children's physical, cognitive, language and social-emotional development and to design support programmes. Almost all options are Turkish-taught; published fees run from $1,500 a year for the associate degree at Haliç to $12,000 for Bilgi's bachelor's.

It is not the same as preschool teaching. A preschool teacher is trained to run a kindergarten class under the education system; a child development specialist works across settings such as hospitals, early-intervention centres, family counselling services and nurseries, often with children who need extra support. Only Gelişim, among the universities here, lists an English-taught bachelor's.

The associate degree (four semesters) is practical: developmental stages, play and activity planning, children's literature, first aid, nutrition, and supervised practice in nurseries or care centres. It suits you if you want to start working as a child development assistant quickly.

The bachelor's (eight semesters) adds developmental psychology, assessment and screening tools, children with special needs, family education, child health and hospital play, research methods and a long internship in the final year. It is the route to specialist roles and to a master's.

Private universities admit international students on the school certificate and transcript, and many also accept SAT, IB or TR-YÖS results. Associate programmes usually have the most flexible academic thresholds.

• School documents: certificate and transcript (the 11-year certificate for Russian and CIS applicants), translations and the Ministry of National Education equivalence at registration.
• Turkish: an accepted Turkish level or a Turkish preparatory year; Gelişim lists Turkish preparation at $1,750 and Nişantaşı at $1,800 (TÖMER).
• Associate places: not every university admits international students to associate programmes; Istinye, for example, states that it does not.
• Health and records: placements with children may require a health report and a criminal-record certificate; ask for the list early.

• Associate or bachelor's: choose the associate degree for a fast start in childcare, the bachelor's for specialist and hospital roles or a master's later.
• Placements: ask where students practise: university hospitals, early-intervention centres, nurseries or schools.
• Campus and fee: Medipol, for example, charges differently at its main health-sciences school and its Haliç campus.
• Graduate options: Üsküdar and Gelişim list Turkish-taught master's programmes in child development.
• Recognition at home: check how your country recognises the title before choosing the degree level.

Graduates work in nurseries and early-childhood centres, paediatric units and hospital play services, early-intervention and rehabilitation centres, family and social-service centres, toy and children's media companies, and in parent education. Associate graduates usually start as assistants; bachelor's graduates can take specialist and coordinating roles.

The title and duties are regulated differently in each country. In Türkiye, public employment follows civil-service rules that apply to citizens; international graduates more often work in private settings or return home, so check recognition in the country where you plan to work.

Medipol lists $6,000 at its School of Health Sciences and $5,500 at its Haliç-campus college. Non-thesis master's tracks cost less: $4,400 at Üsküdar and $3,750 at Gelişim for the whole programme. Yeni Yüzyıl publishes a 50% scholarship rate ($1,500) for its associate degree, and several universities reduce the fee for advance payment.

Haliç and Nişantaşı print no academic year, and Gelişim's and Gedik's latest lists cover 2025/26, so confirm those amounts for your intake. Bilgi's list gives one fee for most Turkish-taught associate programmes ($3,000), so ask the university whether child development is open to international students there.
