About Istinye University

Established in 2015, İstinye University is a private higher education institution located in Istanbul, operating two campuses on the European side. The university comprises nine faculties offering over 55 study programs, two vocational schools, and one institute, providing innovative and sustainable education. Currently, more than 16,000 students are enrolled in associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs.

Founded by the 21st Century Anatolian Foundation, İstinye University builds upon the accumulated knowledge and expertise of the MLP Care Group, which unifies three distinguished hospital brands-Liv Hospital, Medical Park, and VM Medical Park-into Turkey’s largest private healthcare group. Throughout their training, students actively collaborate with healthcare teams and esteemed professors, gaining invaluable skills and knowledge for their future professional endeavors. The university also fosters a strong research culture with 29 research centers and 24-hour libraries located on both campuses.

These centers include the Artificial Intelligence Application Center, the Research Center in Medicine, and the Economics and Policy Application Center, among others.

The International Student Guidance unit demonstrates an inclusive approach to guiding international students about life at ISU, fostering a unique university experience, and facilitating cultural integration while exploring opportunities in Istanbul. ISU Student Center provides services like career consultancy, traineeship opportunities, and psychological support.

To make the transition even smoother, Istinye University offers the ISUBuddy Program. This 6-week program pairs new students with current ISU students who guide them through campus life, help them meet new people, and explore Istanbul. The program is designed to make freshmen feel comfortable and connected as they begin their journey at ISU.

ISU has been named the fastest-growing university in Turkey by the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) 2022-2023. This success demonstrates ISU’s strong focus on advancing academics and fostering a robust research culture. In the 2024-2026 URAP rankings, it moved up from 11th to 7th place among foundation universities in just one year. Notably, Istinye University rose 9 positions in the article score, ranking 2nd among foundation universities overall, and achieved 7th place in the scientific document score, further emphasizing its dedication to high-quality research. Students at Istinye benefit from a university that is rapidly growing in academic and international prestige, ensuring their degree remains respected-especially for those pursuing advanced studies abroad in Europe or the U.S.

ISU is also recognized for its efforts in sustainability, excelling in areas aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as health, equality, and partnerships. As a fast-developing university, ISU is making a significant impact both in Turkey and around the world.

Admission and language requirements at Istinye University

International undergraduate applicants normally begin with a clear passport copy, a high-school diploma or current graduation letter, and a complete transcript. A recent photograph and application form may also be required. If documents are not issued in an accepted language, prepare certified translations; final registration can require originals, notarisation and recognition of the school qualification in Turkey. A conditional offer is not the same as final enrolment, so keep the offer, payment receipt and registration checklist together.

For a practical first review, prepare:

  • passport identity page with sufficient validity;
  • high-school diploma or an official letter confirming the expected graduation date;
  • transcript for all completed school years;
  • certified translations where required;
  • language evidence, if already available;
  • supporting achievements or a motivation letter when relevant to the chosen level.

English-taught programs require proof of academic English through an accepted certificate or the university's proficiency route. Students who do not meet the requirement may need an English preparatory year. Turkish-taught programs require Turkish proficiency or a preparatory pathway. Even on an English-taught Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or health-sciences program, Turkish becomes important for daily life and may be essential when training involves patients or local clinical teams.

Master's and PhD applications follow a different process. They can require a bachelor's or master's diploma, transcripts, CV, statement of purpose, references, and a research proposal or interview for thesis-based routes. Transfer applicants should add detailed syllabi and course descriptions; credit recognition is decided by the university and should never be assumed before a written evaluation.

Tuition fees and available discounts at Istinye University

The program table on this page uses USD and shows an annual basis. For the 2026/27 cycle, the listed tuition includes $29,000 per year for Medicine in English, $23,000 for Medicine in Turkish, $24,500 for Dentistry in English, $20,000 for Dentistry in Turkish, $15,000 for Pharmacy in English and $14,000 for Pharmacy in Turkish. Many English-taught engineering, science and health programs are listed at $8,000 per year, while associate programs in the current table are generally $5,000 per year. Graduate amounts also need to be read as annual figures, not as a guaranteed total for the complete degree.

Available application discounts can reduce selected high-cost programs. Current planning examples after discount are approximately $27,550 per year for Medicine in English, $21,850 for Medicine in Turkish, $23,275 for Dentistry in English, $19,000 for Dentistry in Turkish, $14,250 for Pharmacy in English and $13,300 for Pharmacy in Turkish. These figures are useful for short-listing, but the binding amount is the USD tuition written in the applicant's offer for the exact program, language and intake.

Before transferring a deposit, check whether the amount is annual or program-wide, what the first payment reserves, whether any discount is conditional, and which deadline applies. Do not assume that an application discount, early-payment reduction and later academic award can be combined. StudyU compares the written offer with the program table and explains the payment basis before the family makes an international transfer.

Accommodation at Istinye University

Istinye University does not currently have its own dormitories; however, it has established partnerships with private dormitories to offer discounted accommodation options to its students. These dormitories are strategically located on the European side in various areas, ensuring convenience for students. One such partner, Turk Hostel, offers affordable housing equipped with various facilities. Turk Hostel provides housing near Istinye University, with locations strategically chosen to ensure easy access to the university.
The housing units are equipped with integrated furniture, including beds, storage, desks, and lighting. Students have the option to choose their roommates and the number of partners in the rooms. Continuous internet access is provided, along with a public kitchen offering various types of food.

Given the university’s central location in Istanbul, students also have access to a wide range of housing options in the surrounding areas. Plus, Istinye University can identify private dormitory options, but each provider confirms availability and terms.

Destinations include the USA, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, and many more. To assist with living expenses during these exchanges, grants are available for eligible students.

How to evaluate Istinye University for your study plan

Istinye is most useful on a short-list when the applicant has already defined the profession, teaching language and full first-year budget. The university's hospital-linked background, health portfolio and multidisciplinary programs are genuine reasons to consider it, but they do not make every course the right match for every student. Compare the exact curriculum, campus, practical training, tuition basis and post-graduation route instead of deciding from the university name alone.

Start with the program, not the brand

Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy are separate regulated careers with different study lengths, practical demands and licensing routes. Nursing, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Speech and Language Therapy, Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering also lead to distinct professional outcomes. A student who says only “I want a health program” has not narrowed the decision enough. Identify the daily work, academic subjects and country of future practice before selecting a degree.

For engineering and technology, inspect the compulsory mathematics, programming, laboratory and capstone sequence. Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics should not be treated as interchangeable. Ask which projects students complete, what equipment or software they use, how team work is assessed, and whether an international student can document a project for a future portfolio.

Business, psychology, communication, design and humanities applicants should make the same distinction. The right choice depends on the course list, language, internship access and the type of graduate role, not simply on a lower annual fee. For portfolio-based careers, request examples of student output and identify whether the curriculum creates enough substantial work to support an internship application.

Understand the clinical opportunity and its limits

Istinye's links with a large healthcare group can give health students a relevant institutional environment. Applicants should still ask where and when laboratory, simulation and clinical components take place, how placements are allocated, which language is used with patients, and what responsibilities students receive at each stage. Access to a hospital network does not by itself guarantee an identical placement experience for every cohort.

English-taught Medicine or Dentistry does not remove the need for local communication. Clinical learning may involve Turkish-speaking patients and teams, so a realistic plan includes progressive Turkish study even when lectures begin in English. Families should also budget for instruments, laboratory or clinical clothing, transport between sites and any required health or insurance documentation instead of counting tuition alone.

Professional recognition is a separate decision. A Turkish degree can be academically valid while the graduate still needs credential assessment, language evidence, supervised practice or licensing examinations in the destination country. Check the regulator for the intended country before paying a deposit, especially for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and allied-health professions.

Build a complete USD budget

The correct budget starts with the amount and payment basis in the offer. Add a possible preparatory year, housing deposit, monthly rent or dormitory fee, utilities, food, Istanbul transport, residence-permit costs, insurance, learning materials and travel. For a six-year medical route, model more than the first year: a discount today does not automatically prove that every future annual payment will stay unchanged.

Keep three figures separate: the table price, the currently available discounted amount and the binding offer. A family should be able to explain which program and language each number belongs to, whether it is per year, and what deadline protects the place. If the written offer differs from a planning estimate, pause and reconcile the difference before paying.

A useful comparison includes two or three backup universities with a similar academic profile. Compare their discounted tuition, campus commute, housing route, teaching language and recognition requirements in the same spreadsheet. A backup is not a weaker decision; it protects the applicant if a quota closes, a discount changes or language preparation alters the budget.

Match the campus to everyday life

Istinye operates in the European-side context of Istanbul, with Vadi Istanbul and Topkapı serving different academic and student-life needs. Confirm the teaching location for the exact program rather than choosing accommodation from a general university map. A room that looks close to one campus can create a difficult daily journey to another.

Istinye does not rely on a single traditional residential campus. Partner private dormitories and independent rentals can work well, but availability, room type, meal plan, deposit, contract term and commute must be checked in writing. International students should also consider evening transport, access to groceries and healthcare, and whether the route remains practical during exam or clinical schedules.

Read the offer as an admissions document

An offer should state the applicant's name, exact degree, teaching language, intake, tuition, discount, first payment, deadline and remaining registration conditions. Compare every line with the submitted application. Similar English and Turkish program names can carry different prices and language obligations, and a graduate thesis option can differ from a non-thesis route.

After payment, preserve the offer, receipt, bank confirmation and all university correspondence. Final registration may require original documents, translations, recognition paperwork and language results. A visa or residence process is separate from academic admission, so leave enough time for both rather than treating the offer as the final administrative step.

Career preparation begins during the degree

The university can provide courses, research centres, hospital context, clubs and career support; the student still has to convert them into evidence. Health students should keep records of practical training and course syllabi. Engineering students need documented projects, internships and technical skills. Communication and design students need a portfolio. Business and social-science students benefit from applied research, data work, language development and internships.

For an international career, save English-language syllabi, transcripts, placement records and project descriptions from the first year. These documents can matter later for graduate admissions, credit recognition or professional assessment. Ask early whether the faculty can issue detailed course information and how internship completion is recorded.

Who is likely to be a good fit?

Istinye can suit applicants who want a private Istanbul university with a strong health-sciences identity, English- and Turkish-taught options, and access to a broad multidisciplinary catalog. It is a stronger fit when the student is ready for the required science or quantitative workload, is prepared to develop Turkish where practical training demands it, and has a sustainable multi-year budget.

Compare alternatives if the family needs a fully residential campus, a substantially lower medical budget, a different city, or a program with a specific international accreditation or professional route. The final decision should leave the student with a confirmed program, affordable plan, workable commute, understood language pathway and a realistic next step after graduation.

Campus, location and study environment

Location context

Istinye University operates in Istanbul's European-side context. Vadi Istanbul and Topkapı support different academic settings, so the correct question is not simply whether the university is “central,” but where the selected faculty actually teaches. Confirm the building before signing a housing contract.

Compare accommodation by door-to-door travel time, evening transport, deposit, utilities and contract length. Private dormitory or rental availability can change by intake, and a short map distance does not always mean a simple Istanbul commute. Health students should also ask whether practical activity requires travel beyond the main teaching campus.

The study environment is a better fit when the applicant wants an urban university experience and is comfortable managing transport, housing and daily services in a large city. StudyU can compare Istinye with other Turkish universities by program, discounted USD tuition, language route, housing and professional objective before an application is submitted.

Confirm the exact campus, accommodation offer and route in writing before paying a deposit.
